Cliff Cash is a comedian who has taken up the cause and is posting short videos about protests and other events that are going on. He was at the February 5th protest (in his state of North Carolina). I found his video in the link above helped turn my discouraged mood into a renewed energy to fight. He talks about not letting fear get the best of us, and that this presidency is not strong, it's only using fear to pretend it is. Also, in the description he added a list of actions and resources, including the following:

Boycott the companies that support fascism. Use “goodsuniteus” app.

Sign up for the general strike at generalstrikeus.com

Get prepared for a weeklong economic strike where we don’t spend any money.

I hope this is helpful. If not, mods are free to delete.

Tucker Carlson is flat-out defending someone going out with a rifle and murdering protestors.

However, it looks like he has very few major advertisers left at this point and is being supported by Fox News as a whole.

Trump issued the first veto of his presidency, blocking a measure passed by Congress to terminate his emergency declaration. Congress will likely hold a vote on overriding the veto in a couple of weeks, so it's worth calling your representatives again. This would be a good opportunity to follow [personal profile] sathari's suggestion to Be Kind To Your Democratic Congresscritters (And Their Staffers!), by thanking them for their efforts so far, as well as urging them on.

Before I list the posts made in the comm this week, I wanted to link to a fundraiser for the victims of the horrific shootings in New Zealand, if you're looking for a place to show your support and donate.

Mike Espy remains the underdog, but Republicans with access to private polling say Hyde-Smith’s lead has narrowed significantly in recent days. Republicans need only to look to Alabama, where Doug Jones pulled out a surprise win last year, to stoke concern

As seems to be the case on three-day weekends for me, the check-in post is a day late. Apologies for that. It's been a rollercoaster of a week with the Democrats taking the House and a lot of down-ballot races and the firing of Attorney General Sessions imperiling the Mueller investigation. It's a good reminder that we still have two more years under this regime and we're still going to have to fight every step of the way.

Thank you to everyone who voted in the election. Thank you to everyone who contributed in big ways and small to campaigns across the country. Thank you to all our overseas friends who've supported us throughout with information and encouragement. Never give up, never surrender.

Election day is almost upon us! And there's encouraging news about how some of the elections on the various slates are tightening to within the margin of error.

We also have a post where you can wave your hipster credentials and tell us about how you knew candidates "before they were famous".

So time for the final push! We've had plenty of suggestions for last-minute donations and actions, as well as a few things to keep going with once the results are in. As well as voting yourself (if you haven't done so already), we also have suggestions for effective ways to encourage the people you know to vote.

(We'll be making a couple of posts on Tuesday as well, so you can let us know how things are going where you are on the day.)

Upcoming Elections - Encouraging others to vote

Excellent thread on effective voter contact
Encourage your friends to vote with VoteWithMe app
Motivote sort of "gamifies" the midterm voting process (you sign up at the site and as you complete various actions to prepare to vote, you're entered to win prizes.)

AT&T have now definitely ended their support for Steve King, no more "re-evaluating" for the future (source).

Still remaining:

[twitter.com profile] Pinboard: Now that Intel, Purina, AT&T, Land O'Lakes, Smithfield, Black Hills Energy and the NRCC have dropped Steve King, his last significant donors are @Koch_Industries, @ValeroEnergy, Berkshire Hathaway, and @CrystalSugarCo. Curious to hear from them about their corporate values.

As has been pointed out, it's utter bullshit that all these companies are pretending that they just suddenly this second noticed that Steve King is a white supremacist who hangs out with and endorses Nazis and has done for years.

This is happening because of public pressure, and the public pressure is working. So if you can tweet at or e-mail the companies still supporting King, that'd be a good thing.

In related news, the Great Slate (which includes Steve King's opponent J.D. Scholten) has more matching funds.

https://twitter.com/JuddLegum/status/1057632518101483521

And ATT have said they won't donate more money to King now (which is more-or-less meaningless at this point), will "re-evaluate" for 2019:

Intel and now Land O'Lakes have pulled funding from him after pressure (because he's an overt white nationalist who hangs out with and endorses Nazis):

[twitter.com profile] JuddLegum is keeping track and linking to companies that are still funding him: https://twitter.com/JuddLegum/status/1057299815443390469

ETA: Aaaaand Purina's out.

Meanwhile, a recent poll has King's opponent J. D. Scholten within a point of him, FiveThirtyEight have significantly changed their odds, and the Cook Report has switched IA-4 from "likely Republican" to "lean Republican".

Think Progress has compiled a list of businesses that offer incentives, such as discounts, to members of the National Rifle Association (NRA).

https://thinkprogress.org/corporations-nra-f0d8074f2ca7/

Think Progress is asking the organisations about their relationships with the NRA. It will be updating the post with new responses, and you can sign up for updates by email at https://thinkprogress.org/email/nra-updates/

So far, at least one organisation, First National Bank of Omaha, has ended its association.
the bank tweeted that after massive customer feedback, it had decided not to renew its contract with the NRA to issue the [“official credit card of the NRA].
If you use any of these companies, you might want to contact them asking them to end the association and saying you'll stop using them if they continue their relationship with the NRA. The very end of the article provides examples of companies that no longer work with the NRA following earlier campaigns.

*Via [personal profile] sovay: Kellogg's have pulled their advertising from Breitbart, and Breitbart are outraged, evidently because they HATE CAPITALISM AND FREEDOM and don't want large companies to be free to spend their ad budgets how they want in order to maximize their sales. Why do you HATE FREEDOM, Breitbart?

The current editor-in-chief is quoted as follows:

“Boycotting Breitbart News for presenting mainstream American ideas is an act of discrimination and intense prejudice,” he added. “If you serve Kellogg’s products to your family, you are serving up bigotry at your breakfast table.”

This is evidence that they either have no sense of irony at all, or too much of it, in that vacuous way: "we'll say they're being prejudiced and bigoted towards our prejudice and bigotry, tee hee, and then their little liberal brains will have to explode!"

Yes, I discriminate against white supremacists. Deal with it, fuckers.

(Worth dropping Kelloggs some messages of support, maybe, as they're getting the full Gamergate masses unleashed against them.)
