The public comment period is open until 2/17/26 on two regulations. One would prohibit use of public funds for hospitals that provide gender-affirming care to minors, and the other would prohibit the use of Medicaid or CHIP funds for gender-affirming care for minors.
As people of conscience, we should speak out in defense of the young people who cannot vote against this.
Federal Register Comment Area 1 re: hospitals.
Federal Register Comment Area 2 re: Medicaid and CHIP.
I have a standing offer in my journal to write for people who make donations to food banks, Médecins Sans Frontières, and Stand With Minnesota. I am adding in a drabble or limerick per comment on these topics because it's urgent.
Please note that comments that are cut-and-pasted will be bundled together and considered all one comment, so take what phrasing you find effective and write your own.

Submitted regarding stopping hospitals from providing care:
To Whom It May Concern Regarding CMS-3481-P:
It appalls me that the government is considering removing gender-affirming care for minors when all of the research that has been done by reputable organizations on the subject shows that such care saves lives, prevents suicides, and increases quality of life for people who receive it. Do not allow the reactionaries to dictate health policy out of their terror that they do not understand today's children. It is better to have happy, healthy young people whose gender is not the same as their sex at birth than it is to have dead young people. Implementing a policy that restricts or removes care that prevents suffering is monstrous.
Sincerely,
A Concerned Citizen

Submitted regarding not being allowed to use Medicaid and CHIP funds for gender-affirming care:
To Whom It May Concern Regarding CMS-2451-P:
Children whose families are not rich deserve the same standard of high-quality care as the children of the most elite parents on the planet. Prohibiting the use of funds for gender-affirming care will, demonstrably, result in the deaths of young people of lower socioeconomic status, based on all of the research done by the medical community on the efficacy of gender-affirming care. Do not allow this rule to go forward. It is eugenics in the ugliest way.
Sincerely,
A Concerned Citizen
