Reporting GoFundMe pages
Feb. 20th, 2026 03:33 pmIf you have a bit of time to spare, you can help Ultraviolet with the whack-a-mole fun of reporting GoFundMe pages trying to raise money for the killers of Pretti and Good in MN. I have been doing the reporting side of things, and there's just something soothing about watching the pages come down.
Here is a link to a round-up of the pages spotters have collected which handily also includes a link to instructions on how to report: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PqG-bKig3Z8BbHMN7HTrYwWrIoPkQbrM6QboRP_z4mg/edit?gid=86617038#gid=86617038

government shutdown
Oct. 1st, 2025 08:12 amWell, the government shutdown happened. What resources are out there for those dependent on the services that just disappeared?
Ideas to block the current bill
Jul. 2nd, 2025 11:23 amThere are 17 medical professionals in the current House of Representatives. 11 are Republicans. Trying to argue on most issues with the bill is difficult with such a tight deadline, but the one item most people -- including Congressional Representatives -- are reacting to negatively is the closure of Rural and Regional hospitals. This should be a negative for all of the Republicans, but the ones who understand what lack of medical provision can do should be especially ripe to listen, perhaps even be persuaded.
I live in Georgia. Rich McCormick is Georgia District 6, and I live in District 1. But he's more likely to respond to someone from the same state, especially if he has Senate or Gubernatorial ambitions in the future.
The list I found is through The Patients Action Network. If you are in a District with one of these Republican representatives, particularly if they specialize in Emergency or Family medicine, start calling and/or emailing. If you are in the same state, email them and let them know you have a long memory if they're thinking of statewide offices.
In the meantime, send support to the few Republicans in the House who have already voted against it and continue to oppose it. At the very least, let's make them miss their deadline for vacation.

Boycott tomorrow!
Feb. 27th, 2025 06:40 pmPer Robert Reich's Substack. there is a "general boycott" tomorrow--- basically, not shopping at all big-box stores/online retailers and/or with "plastic" (bank and credit cards). Details at the link and sorry for the short notice!
I thought this might be relevant to some of our interests in the wake of today's news: link to donate to VP Harris' presidential campaign.
ETA thanks to folks in comments:
minoanmiss also recommends contacting the DNC to encourage them to make her the official nominee, and
philomytha let us know that US citizens who are overseas can contribute through the linked site if they give their passport number. Thanks so much!
Further ETA from comments: quoting our wonderful mod
tanaqui: "If you have time rather than money to donate, take a look at https://events.democrats.org/
If you click on the filter button near the top of the page, you can search for events that are local, GOTV, canvassing/phonebanking or ADA accessible."
And
minoanmiss would like to credit
petra for the idea of contacting the DNC. (This is probably my last update to this post, so that newer ideas can go in new posts and more people can see them.)

And
I did not expect (living in the UK) to wake up this morning to news of an assassination attempt on Trump.
It's too early to know what the political ramifications are going to be, but what we can do is continue on with the suggestions made in the excellent post by
petra: Things to do other than vote.
Another source of ideas for action (there's some overlap with
petra's post, but a few other points) is the Defeat Project 2025 site.
If you want to discuss what happened at the Trump rally (and the response to it) here, I'm happy to host that conversation, but I may freeze the discussion if it gets too fractious.
As I had a busy time and missed putting up a check in poll last weekend, here's this month's poll, behind the cut.
( poll behind the cut )

From the bulletin: "The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is conducting an Amtrak Daily Long-Distance Service Study to evaluate the restoration of daily long-distance intercity rail passenger service and the potential for new Amtrak long-distance routes. This study will ultimately create a long-term vision for long-distance passenger rail service and identify capital projects and funding needed to implement that vision. The initial proposal would add 15 long-distance routes, serving 61 additional metropolitan areas to create a true national network... Do you want to make your voice heard on this vital question of an expanded passenger rail network? If so, please read through the presentation materials and make a comment by Friday, March 8."
More information, including the study parameters, and the comment form can be found here.

Got a Republican representative?
Nov. 13th, 2020 07:34 amStart demanding they get the GSA to sign the letter of ascertainment to let the transition process start!
Looking for sources of talking points and/or people to cite?
Here's a letter from FEC Commissioner Ellen Weintraub explaining clearly and bluntly why it's necessary and why there's no basis for delaying it when there was no such delay in 2008 or 2016:
https://twitter.com/EllenLWeintraub/status/1326275176791683072
Former Secretaries of the DHS -- both Republican and Democrat -- explain why the process needs to start now:
https://twitter.com/rgoodlaw/status/1326551714153943040
150 former security officials (R and D) warn that the delay poses a “serious risk to national security":
https://www.politico.com/news/2020/11/12/security-officials-warn-biden-transition-436286
Mike Rodgers (R, former chair of the House Intelligence Committee) demands that Biden start receiving the President's Daily Brief immediately:
https://twitter.com/RepMikeRogers/status/1326260225301753858
You can also see if your Republican reps have acknowledged Biden as President-Elect (round-up of those who have) -- ask them to do so if they haven't, but also praise them if they have.
It's a painfully low bar and it might seem galling to have to praise them for stepping over it when it's on the floor, but positive reinforcement is REALLY POWERFUL, especially when they'll be getting a tonne of blow-back from Trumpists.

Indivisible 2020

Wake up on November 4 knowing you did everything in your power to make Trump a one-term president.
You can sign up to write letters to voters, to phonebank, and/or to "triple your vote" by pledging to get three people you know to turn out to vote.

Waging Nonviolence: 10 things you need to know to stop a coup
From the same site:
What will it take to defend the election? Here’s one winning strategy
OK, here’s the idea: Go to people who hold elective political power near you, in your town, county, city, state. Urge them to “Join us in demanding every vote be counted.”

This is a great occasion to call; I did that yesterday.
I like https://www.commoncause.org/find-your-representative/ for finding the most up-to-date phone numbers.
My basic script for this specific occasion, which you can modify as you see fit:
* I am your constituent, [name]
* My address is: []
* [sometimes they ask for phone number and email address]
* And I am calling because:
* Trump knowingly downplayed vital information about the pandemic
* This caused possibly hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths
* This is bad
* He must be removed from office immediately
* Further optional details (until answering machine time runs out)
I'm copying a post by
rushthatspeaks about helping people in ICE detention camps; rushthatspeakss note that they're basically reposting something they found on Tumblr. (I was going to repost rather than linking, but I couldn't cope with reading the content, and link labels, closely. We do what we can, and I will stop trying to find the "right" phrasing for having limits.
