I hope everyone is keeping safe in the face of various extreme weather events and the resurgence in Covid cases. If you know of any efforts to provide assistance to people who have been affected by the storms, flooding and ongoing wildfires, please drop a line in comments or feel free to make a post.

Alongside the human-created "natural" disasters, another big news story in the last month has been the new anti-abortion law in Texas (and the Supreme Court's refusal to intervene). The two posts in the comm since the last check in relate to that:

Submitting Junk data to the 'abortion reporting' form — I understand the website/form has now been kicked off its hosting for violating Terms of Service relating to collecting personal data, but it may pop up elsewhere and there are some good ideas in comments for how to respond to similar forms in future.
A good Tweet — Suggestions for where to donate in response to the Texas law.

Don't be shy of making your own posts about any issues and actions you think the comm should know about, or dropping some information into a comment to our sticky post if you'd like the mods to do it. And you can always use our tags to check for any ongoing actions or resources relevant to the issues you care about.

Meanwhile, use our poll (behind the cut) to tell us what you've been doing in the last few weeks and tell us in comments what you plan to do next.

I spent a good chunk of time again at the 'rents' place last month, because the landlord and his crew were busy installing central heating/AC in my apartment. They were scheduled to be finished in here already, but as is the case sometimes the work was delayed a bit due to unforeseen circumstances. But it is mostly complete. While all that's been happening, I've been hanging out as usual with my neighbor/friend across the hall and doing a few other things. Long story short, he is extremely isolated.

A list of people doing good work / needing help in the wake of Ida from someone who lives in the affected area: Cajun Navy, Second Harvest Food Bank, Hands on New Orleans, Catholic Charities of New Orleans, New Orleans Musicians Clinic, Imagine Water Works, Animal Rescue New Orleans, Louisiana SPCA, Houma Nation, Chitimacha Nation, Lakota Law, and any of the fine people who've organized their neighborhoods and are getting food, water, ice, and gas to those who need it.
