Happy New Year and welcome to 2021!

I hope you all had good and safe holidays and were able to (zoom?) meet with the people you love and survive being forced to meet with those people you'd rather avoid.

Since our last check in, [personal profile] redbird posted the good news that the state legislature in Massachusetts has strengthened abortion rights in the state.

We're now moving on to certification of the election (with more desperate attempts by Trump's lackeys to overturn the results) and the inauguration. But before that, the Georgia senate run-off elections need to be decided.

This check-in post has a round up of actions you can take, and [personal profile] rydra_wong has posted since the last check in about an effort to target companies making last-minute donations to the Republican candidates.

Use our poll to tell us what you've been in up in the last few weeks and use the comments to tell us what you plan to do next.

Back in November, after the presidential election was called, I decided I would do one big donation in support of the Georgia runoffs and then firmly resist any pressure from organizations to donate additional money or time I could not spare then. After doing some research, I decided the best option for me would be to do a slate donation giving $10 to each and every single little county Democratic Party Committee, as most of these had just wiped their entire budgets and then some on the long haul of on the ground work to convince their neighbors to get out the vote.

I just received my first ever entirely hand-written thank you note for a political donation (remember, this was just $10!) from one of the members of the Grady County Democratic Party Committee, which I'm quoting in full below because it's been making me beam like a loon since I opened it earlier this morning. I have a sneaking suspicion that this particular committee has committed to writing hand-written thank you notes to each and every donor regardless of the size of the donation, and I appreciate it so very much.
It is an exciting time in Georgia as our state recently voted "blue" for the first time in many years. We have been working hard to strengthen our Democratic Party here, especially with the Jan. 5th Senate run-off election right before us! Our local Grady County community is one small part in what we hope will be a growing awakening among the voters of Georgia, that our party's principles are sound and that every vote is so important!

We appreciate your kind donation to our efforts - we have needed this help as we contact voters, direct them to appropriate polling places, share brochures, and work to build a stronger Democratic Party in Grady County. This work will continue after Tuesday's election so again, thank you!

This is absolutely lovely! (I did something similar, only my big donation was to Fair Fight, who has been relatively restrained about asking me for more money).

Happy New Year to y'all as well. I recently signed up for alerts from one of my local Democratic Congress members, and last night I listened to and liked a video that she posted where she discussed the stimulus checks that were supposed to go out but which Trump and McConnell vetoed. I think this was one of the first of her videos that I listened to. I plan to do more of the same going forward, but my social life just has a habit of getting in the way.

Is there a way you could put all that text under a cut? (Asking for a friend.)
