Celebration Thread

The election has finally been called for Biden and Harris, so it's time to celebrate!

The work isn't over, of course: Cheetolini is refusing to concede and who knows what his supporters will do in the next few days. There are also the two run-off races in Georgia that will determine control of the Senate, so plenty of work to be done there. Not to mention all the work that still needs to go on to roll back the damage done in the last four years and build a fairer world, to improve voting rights and turnout, and to take control at local and state level.

But at this moment, we definitely deserve a post for celebrating. :-) Both the result (and that we've seen the first woman and first woman of color elected to the White House!) and the way this community has become an amazing place over the past four years. Thank you to all of you!

As I pointed out in another friend's journal, this is the end of a war, or maybe the climactic battle. This is a door being chocked open. We have so much to drag through the door, to build, to rebuild, to replace. We have a lot of work to do.

But as a country, we rejected letting fascism weld that door shut. Hope remains.

And today I'm singing "The World Turned Upside Down" and getting ready for the days ahead.

I am so relieved. Tonight, we celebrate; tomorrow, we get up and keep going.

This community has been solace and inspiration and fellowship during a very dark period, and I hope it too continues even as we get to brighter dawns.

Just got back from the demo in Manhattan. It was sort of a reverse parade--the demonstrators stood on the sidewalk while people in cards drove by and honked their horns and applauded. Then I got back to Jersey City and there was a much more celebratory feeling outside City Hall.

Am just getting to this one now, but I'm so-o happy with the final results of the election. Kamala and Joe certainly have their work cut out for them. But I've absolutely no doubt in my mind that they are up to the task. I'm not as familiar with Kamala, having only heard of her during the Orange Outrage's impeachment trial. But I was impressed with her then, and the same is true now.
