Weekly Check in Oct 29
Oct. 29th, 2017 04:47 pmIt's been another quiet week on the comm, and I don't know about you guys, but my energy levels for paying attention to the constant barrage of bad news is at a low. But on election day I have my city election! So I was thinking maybe this week a goal for folks who have an election day coming up would be to share what's on your local ballot. This could help motivate to look at your local elections and remember that change starts at home. Thoughts?
Housekeeping (the usual stuff)
Reminder that we have a suggestion post if there’s a topic that you’d like to see discussed but would like to ask the mods to look into. This can be anything from general information, or a how-to-do-a-thing, or something you may want to discuss as a community. Folks are welcome to post directly to the comm as always, but if you’re not comfortable/don’t have spoons, we can help too.
As we don't always get the time to pull things out of the suggestions post into their own separate posts, it may be worth checking every week (or tracking the post) to see if there's any new information you're interested in.
Also if you need help with tags, PM
redbird, who is our tag guru. Both
tanaqui and I are very grateful for the help.

Date: 2017-10-30 01:36 am (UTC)There's some good news about recent Virginia polls (WaPo link) suggesting that progressive-voter turnout may be higher than conservative turnout. I don't know what effect the negative campaign ads this week will have, but I'm glad to see the numbers so far.
I'm waiting to see what charges come out this week in the rumors of Mueller's indictments. I'm also waiting for details of the tax plan to be released, with my reps' numbers on speed dial.
In good news, Democratic congressional candidates are out-fundraising their opponents (in many specific cases, and in general), with lots of small-dollar donations that suggest a lot of engagement with their voters.
