Pulling a few highlights out of the google doc that [personal profile] rydra_wong linked to in her post about the RAICES fundraiser to help reunite immigrant families.

1. On June 30 (next Saturday) is the Families Belong Together Protest. Events are being held all over the country.

Information and local event finder is here: https://www.familiesbelongtogether.org/

ETA: [personal profile] teaotter  posted about this a few days ago which I didn't see because I was afk. Her post also had a link where you don't need to register for the rallies to get info: https://act.moveon.org/event/families-belong-together/search/?

2. Before then, if you haven't yet, call your Senators and Representatives. If they're against the current policy, thank them. Otherwise demand their stance and let them know you are outraged. The House is expected to vote on two anti-immigration bills on Thursday June 21, and neither addresses the current family separation policy. Tell your Rep to vote NO.

Other call tools listed in the google doc
The ACLU has a call tool specifically for Senators; the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) has a call tool that directs calls, tweets, facebook posts, and emails to all Members of Congress. Individuals can compose letters for delivery on the Herd on the Hill portal that will be cloud-printed in DC and walked over to the House and Senate.

Reunite an immigrant parent with their child

Money raised goes into their bond fund and providing legal representation.

CNN: $4,000 a minute pours in to help reunite separated immigrant families (warning for autoplaying audio of crying children being separated from their families)

They couple who started the fundraiser were initially aiming for $1500 -- they've now raised over $8 million and are aiming for $11 million.

ETA: now over $10 million, aiming for $15 million.

Very good FAQ, including recs for other ways to help, including details on rallies and contacting representatives: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RTxk4mfg7f9E_Or1y9GFg9BtindehUOmGwIzlDle7LY/edit#heading=h.gh20iccux1mx

In comments on my DW, I was discussing how easy it is to feel overwhelmed and immobilized by the sheer level of evil; sometimes it can be easier to act on things that are less horrific. Stories like this can be an antidote to the frozenness, and so can make it easier to act (in ways including but not limited to donating). So if that makes sense to you, consider passing it on.

OMG I can't believe I have the scoop, but...this is c&pd from Coalition for Human Needs, linking to a Washington Post article: Trump has announced he will sign an EO to end the practice of separating children from parents in immigration detention.

Admittedly it's kind of like being a Presbyterian and your minister agrees to stop getting his dick out and snorting coke...during the sermon. You wouldn't think it was even a topic, but it's still good to get the promise FWIW.

"We know you care deeply about the immigrant children who have been taken from their parents by the Trump Administration. Right now it's reported

that the Administration is responding to the firestorm of protest by announcing that the President will sign an executive order ending this abusive practice. Instead, parents and children will be detained together. Under current law, families with children are not supposed to be held more than 20 days. It is not known what the Administration's plans are. They are seeking legislation. They do not need legislation to end their policy of criminal prosecutions for all parents attempting to enter this country. However, incarcerating parents and children together for longer periods than is now legal is not a solution. We will be sharing more information as we get it, and hope you will join us in continuing to fight against the inhumane treatment of immigrant children and families.

In the meantime, please call your Representative to ask that he/she oppose the two anti-immigrant bills to be on the floor Thursday. Info on how to call, here.

More soon."

Headline by analogy with the immortal Boston Globe slug about a Jimmy Carter speech ("More Mush from the Wimp") here is the text of the EO.

"Affording Congress an Opportunity to Address Family Separation
5-6 minutes

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), 8 U.S.C. 1101 et seq., it is hereby ordered as follows:

Section 1. Policy. It is the policy of this Administration to rigorously enforce our immigration laws. Under our laws, the only legal way for an alien to enter this country is at a designated port of entry at an appropriate time. When an alien enters or attempts to enter the country anywhere else, that alien has committed at least the crime of improper entry and is subject to a fine or imprisonment under section 1325(a) of title 8, United States Code. This Administration will initiate proceedings to enforce this and other criminal provisions of the INA until and unless Congress directs otherwise. It is also the policy of this Administration to maintain family unity, including by detaining alien families together where appropriate and consistent with law and available resources. It is unfortunate that Congress’s failure to act and court orders have put the Administration in the position of separating alien families to effectively enforce the law.

Sec. 2. Definitions. For purposes of this order, the following definitions apply:

(a) “Alien family” means

(i) any person not a citizen or national of the United States who has not been admitted into, or is not authorized to enter or remain in, the United States, who entered this country with an alien child or alien children at or between designated ports of entry and who was detained; and

(ii) that person’s alien child or alien children.

(b) “Alien child” means any person not a citizen or national of the United States who

(i) has not been admitted into, or is not authorized to enter or remain in, the United States;

(ii) is under the age of 18; and

(iii) has a legal parent-child relationship to an alien who entered the United States with the alien child at or between designated ports of entry and who was detained.

Sec. 3. Temporary Detention Policy for Families Entering this Country Illegally. (a) The Secretary of Homeland Security (Secretary), shall, to the extent permitted by law and subject to the availability of appropriations, maintain custody of alien families during the pendency of any criminal improper entry or immigration proceedings involving their members.

(b) The Secretary shall not, however, detain an alien family together when there is a concern that detention of an alien child with the child’s alien parent would pose a risk to the child’s welfare.

(c) The Secretary of Defense shall take all legally available measures to provide to the Secretary, upon request, any existing facilities available for the housing and care of alien families, and shall construct such facilities if necessary and consistent with law. The Secretary, to the extent permitted by law, shall be responsible for reimbursement for the use of these facilities.

(d) Heads of executive departments and agencies shall, to the extent consistent with law, make available to the Secretary, for the housing and care of alien families pending court proceedings for improper entry, any facilities that are appropriate for such purposes. The Secretary, to the extent permitted by law, shall be responsible for reimbursement for the use of these facilities.

(e) The Attorney General shall promptly file a request with the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California to modify the Settlement Agreement in Flores v. Sessions, CV 85-4544 (“Flores settlement”), in a manner that would permit the Secretary, under present resource constraints, to detain alien families together throughout the pendency of criminal proceedings for improper entry or any removal or other immigration proceedings.

Sec. 4. Prioritization of Immigration Proceedings Involving Alien Families. The Attorney General shall, to the extent practicable, prioritize the adjudication of cases involving detained families.

Sec. 5. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:

(i) the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or

(ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.

(b) This order shall be implemented in a manner consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.

(c) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

Speaking of tools, Indivisible has ideas for making your Congressional servants feel truly welcome during the June 29-July 8 recess. To paraphrase Mark Twain, nobody's life or property is safe while the legislature is in session, so when it isn't:
