(This one involves a lot more energy/time/money/etc. than most of the things we're suggesting, so we know a lot of people won't have the resources to take this on. However, as it also involves a lot more planning, we wanted to mention it now for anyone who is interested in taking part.)

A march on Washington is planned for 21 January 2017, the day after the inauguration, from the Lincoln Memorial to the White House.

From the official statement:
"The rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us--women, immigrants of all statuses, those with diverse religious faiths particularly Muslim, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Native and Indigenous people, Black and Brown people, people with disabilities, the economically impoverished and survivors of sexual assault. We are confronted with the question of how to move forward in the face of national and international concern and fear.

In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore. The Women’s March on Washington will send a bold message to our new administration on their first day in office, and to the world that women's rights are human rights. We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.
The event is being organised on a state-by-state basis and local marches are also being organised. You can find details for your state chapter at http://www.mwm-pa.org/2016/11/15/find-your-state-chapter-for-the-womens-march-on-washington/, including any specific assistance they need in terms of volunteers/donations. Although the focus of the march is on women's rights, everyone is welcome to attend.

Organisers are urging people to be quick about reserving hotel accommodation in the D.C. area for the weekend, as rooms are expected to already be limited because of the inauguration the day before. (Note: they're still working on applying for the necessary permits from the National Parks Service, according to this article in the Washingon Post about the event.)

Please feel free to use the comments to arrange meet-ups either at the Washington DC march or locally, offer a place to crash or make suggestions about logistics to people coming from out of town.

I'm going. I live about 1 1/2 hours drive from the end of the Blue line in Springfield. I have a large house and am happy to offer rooms/beds. I might not have much room in my car, though, so guests will likely have to find other transportation.
