[personal profile] tanaqui posting in [community profile] thisfinecrew
I hope you're all enjoying Labor Day weekend. If you've been in the path of various bad weather events recently, then I'd like to send my best wishes and I hope you're getting the help you need and are managing to get back to normal.

Since the last check in, Trump has been charged for his efforts to change the election result in Georgia — and his schedule of trials for next year is getting busy.

Here are the posts in the comm since the last check in — thank you to everyone who's posted.

Federal Funding For Transgender Health Care
Fundraising For An Abortion Clinic In Florida Facing Closure

Also, if you haven't seen it, [staff profile] denise made a post in [site community profile] dw_news about government attempts to control social media that will impact everyone negatively, and especially marginalised people. We had a post about this bill (and some others) a few weeks back, but if you haven't had time to take action, there are some good links and suggestions in Denise's post and the comments.

And a quick reminder that we have an Election Resources Roundup if you're looking to work on GOTV or campaign activities. (We compiled it a while ago, so let us know if it needs updating.)

As always, everyone is free to make posts about any issues and actions they think the comm should know about. You can also drop some information into a comment to our sticky post if you'd like the mods to do it.

If you're looking for information on anything else, you can use our tags to check for any ongoing actions or resources relevant to the issues you care about. (And a quick shout out to [personal profile] redbird for all the tagging work that keeps the comm running smoothly.)

Finally, here's our poll (behind the cut) for you to tell us what you've been doing in the last few weeks. And do let us know in comments what you plan to do next.

the US Patent Bureau calls for comment on AI . I've linked to my friend's post about it rather than try to summarize her useful commentary.

Thank you for sharing. As someone blind from birth and a longtime screen reader user, I personally have found AI to be quite useful. For instance, it can read the nutritional information--or lack thereof in some cases--on a box of pasta or granola bars.

that makes sense, and I hope you told the Patent office so. But... wouldn't copyrighting AI make it harder to use it for reading packaging? What if it came down to a battle over copyright because a given program assumed copyright over whwat it read?
