What the committee should be concerned about: Nikki R. Haley is the Governor of South Carolina, in her second term with two years to run. The daughter of Indian immigrants, she became the first woman and the first person from a minority background to lead the state. During her time as Governor, she earned praise for helping bring down the Confederate battle flag from the grounds of the South Carolina State House in 2015, in the wake of the mass shooting at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. She was also a vocal critic of Trump during the campaign, strongly opposing his proposal to ban the immigration of Muslims and clarifying that when she criticized the "angriest voices" in the Republican party, she was thinking of Trump. She later took him to task for failing to condemn groups like the Ku Klux Klan and only "tepidly" endorsing him after the primaries. The major downside of Governor Haley's nomination appears to be that she has very little foreign policy experience.
Suggested action:While Governor Haley is a weak candidate compared with previous nominations to this post, she does appear to be far more moderate and international in outlook than most current Republicans. I didn't see any evidence that there's any strong reason to oppose her, apart from her lack of relevant experience, so it's probably not worth calling about this one. But please let us know in comments if there are strong reasons the committee should reject the nomination.
