I have been calling after hours to ensure I speak to a voicemail and not a person, but this has helped lower my bar for how prepared I feel I have to be -- that basically all I have to say is, "I want [name] to [support/oppose] X (or otherwise "Do X")," with maybe 1 or 2 reasons why, for the tallies.
Sharing the below information in case it's helpful; feel free to ignore; I'm very much not trying to force you to make phone calls when that doesn't feel possible for you.
I bravely called my people's local offices today (starting ~3pm my time) and got a real person at my Rep's office but voicemail at my Senators' offices.
I called 3 different times (3 different issues) and spaced out my calls to my Rep by like 10 minutes each since I felt awkward calling repeatedly, but the same person answered my first 2 calls and seemed unfazed, and the 3rd call I got a different staffer altogether.
