Call script

I've been having trouble keeping up with the latest issues to call about, so I created a more general script that I can just keep using. This is what I used today for calling my reps:


My name is [name], I’m a constituent here in [town name], [ZIP code].

I am calling to express my concerns about the blatantly illegal actions that the Trump Administration is taking to dismantle government agencies that were created and maintained by acts of congress. I am also concerned that the Republican majorities in congress are refusing to stop those illegal actions and rein in the administration.

This is not “business as usual” and cannot be treated that way. I ask the [Senator/Congresswoman] to refuse to participate in negotiations for the budget or the debt ceiling until the Republicans in Congress take steps to rein in the administration’s blatantly illegal actions.

Good script! And honestly, you can use this as a basic script for ALL phone calls to reps.

My name is [name], I’m a constituent here in [town name], [ZIP code].

I am calling to express my deep concern about [issue].

(Optional: Because [personal connection])

This is [reason this is bad].

I ask the [Senator/Congressperson] to [action].

It always helps to remind myself that the representative is never going to hear my call, they're going to get a brief summary from the overworked assistant I spoke to that says "yeah, X number of people called about [issue], most of them thought it was bad, some people mentioned [personal connection], people are asking you to [action]."

So there is zero need for me to try for maximum eloquence as if I was personally going to change [Representative's] mind, I just need to hit those points clearly.
