Vox explainer on the announced plan

I'm delighted by the recent announcement about student loan forgiveness, which will make a real difference to so many people (and I say this as someone who paid off her own loans within five years and helped a family member pay theirs off as well).

I’m also asking you to support legislation that allows student borrowers to refinance their loans to a 0% interest rate. There are multiple studies, including one from the National Science Foundation, which confirm that 0% interest rates would help student borrowers be more effective members and contributors to the economy and to society. None of this forgiveness or refinancing should be subject to means-testing. Current and future students are already facing an educational system which has been systematically defunded at every level and they should be able to start their adult lives and careers without debt inflicted on them.
