This is election day in much of the United States. It's an "off year," but there are some significant things on people's ballots: if you can vote and haven't already done so, please do.This is an off year, but there are some significant elections. In particular:
Both houses of the Virginia legislature. Not every district is competitive (gerrymandering again) but if yours might be, please vote for the Democratic candidate.
Ohio: "Issue 1" would protect abortion rights, by amending the state constitution.
There are also more local elections like city council races and school boards on the ballot in some places. If you're in Boston, there are eight candidates for four at-large seats. I voted happily for Louijeune, Santana, and Mejia, and less happily for Murphy. Pleave vote against the two anti-vaxxers, Vitale and Nelson. Vitale is also an insurrectionist and election denier, which aren't Boston-local issues but are enough to make me vote against her for anything she runs for.
Minneapolis and St. Paul, I recommend Naomi Kritzer's election blogging. She has posted a round=up of all of this year's endorsements, with links to her explanations: https://naomikritzer.com/2023/11/05/election-2023-sample-ballot-index-of-posts/
