Telecom companies charge prisoners extortionate fees to call the outside world.

There's a bill in Congress that would do something about this, but it hasn't gotten much attention. Color of Change is asking people to fax their Congressmembers and tell them to co-sponsor the bill, HR 2489. I checked on the House of Representatives website, and my Congresswoman isn't listed as a sponsor. I wrote to her through her website form, rather than faxing, but going through Color of Change might be easier:
