Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and 31 of her colleagues have introduced legislation to keep immigrant families together by preventing the Department of Homeland Security from taking children from their parents at the border.

The Keep Families Together Act was developed in consultation with child welfare experts to ensure the federal government is acting in the best interest of children. The bill is supported by the American Academy of Pediatrics, Kids In Need of Defense (KIND), Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA), Children’s Law Center, Young Center for Immigrant Rights and the Women's Refugee Commission.
A list of the senators co-sponsoring the bill is included at the link, as well as more background on the legislation.

Contact your senators to thank them for supporting the bill or to ask them to support it.

On June 26th, the following states are having their spring elections:

Colorado -- Maryland --- New York -- Oklahoma --- Utah

If you know anyone in these states, REMIND THEM TO VOTE!

[New York is having their federal primaries this month, with state and local offices later in the year. Thanks to [personal profile] redbird for the clarification!]

(Most of these states have vote by mail that you can register for if you do it quickly, or other early voting -- check the dates here.)

Don't be fooled by the way people talk about them -- so-called "primary" elections aren't just about selecting candidates for the fall. Lots of offices are on the ballot ONLY in the spring. Depending on the state and county, that can include county election clerks, judges, and district attorneys, among others.

If you care about election integrity and racial justice reform, then spring elections are important!

Turnout is usually low and typically leans Republican, so these important local offices tend to lean that way as well. We need to get the word out about why these ignored elections matter!

For the rest of the season, I'm going to post the upcoming dates for various states. If you know anyone in these states, poke them and remind them to vote! Every vote counts!

There are dozens of rallies tomorrow protesting the ICE policy of separating immigrant children from their parents. The one in Boston is at 1 p.m. in front of the State House (next to the Common).

The linked page is searchable by zip code, to find a rally near you.

(Yes, this is short notice and an inconvenient time.)
