This is c&p'd from American Friends Service Committee (afsc.org)--another worthy project for the upcoming generation of leaders.

As families continue to be torn apart at the U.S.-Mexico border, the American Friends Service Committee calls for an immediate end to family separation and all detention and deportation of immigrants. Each summer, young people who have been separated from a parent—either by detention or prison—along with their peer allies, look to AFSC to help them heal and to build their voices of resistance to the injustices of our immigration and criminal legal systems. At AFSC’s Liberation Summer Young People's Advocacy Training Camp, young leaders learn the art and power of photography and filmmaking, the need for narrative change, and the importance of their presence as we all seek a more just and humane society.

We’re raising $5,000 by June 21, so we can send 10 young people to Liberation Summer Camp this summer. Your gift today will help a young person who has been separated from a parent, either by deportation or prison, join with others for healing and resistance building. Please support a young person by making a gift today.

Liberation Summer runs from July 2 – August 2, where the young attendees build leadership skills and receive social justice advocacy training. At camp, emerging young leaders will find a space to heal while gaining the skills to advocate for themselves and their communities.

You can support young people like 17-year-old Tristan, whose father has been incarcerated since before he was born. Tristan says he stays positive because of the support and encouragement from his dad; they’re in constant contact and his father’s accomplishments in prison show Tristan that he can achieve anything he sets his mind to outside of prison. “He always taught me that adversity is something that comes to everyone,” says Tristan about his dad, “Some people, it brings them down, and some people become stronger and rise up.” Last summer, Liberation Summer Camp provided the tools for Tristan to pursue his goals and become a leader in his community.
