Useful how-to guide for dissemination

ProPublica: Voting in America Is WILD. Here’s How to Plan Ahead.

ETA: bless them, they've changed "NUTS" to "WILD". As a mentally ill person, I personally don't object to a lot of the colloquial uses of "crazy" etc., but I appreciate that they're trying to be thoughtful and presumably listening to feedback.

Oooh, thanks you so much for posting this--- it was actually reading that article that inspired me to check my voter registration (for the umpteenth time) and discover that provisional ballots were available in my state--- which led to my making this post. (And making that post got me wondering which states had provisional/sample ballots up... and then that turned into this linkspam.

(Which honestly, I had faffed about posting because I was all like, "Sath, it's Dreamwidth, it's not just Dreamwidth but a political comm on Dreamwidth, surely everyone here already has their state's voter information page bookmarked, you are being condescending and splainy." And then you posted the article that had gotten me started in the first place, and I realized that, no, it might be helpful--- especially with today being National Voter Registration Day and all!)

Your posts are excellent!

Thanks so much--- and same to you! (I've also been reading and loving the Watergate information on your journal!)

"Sath, it's Dreamwidth, it's not just Dreamwidth but a political comm on Dreamwidth, surely everyone here already has their state's voter information page bookmarked"

But even if they do -- and I bet there are people who've meant to but haven't got around to it, or haven't managed yet because spoons -- I figure everyone will know other people on- or offline who might not be registered or haven't checked that they are or don't know what ID they do or don't need.

Yes, that was also one of my considerations--- I had actually drafted an apologia along the lines of, "I know everyone here is tech-savvy and politically engaged and probably knows this for themselves, but if you have friends and family in other states this may save you time...."

Not to mention that when I was actually doing the searching, sometimes the actual official state agency pages were buried at least a page down in the search results, which means that, yeah, this information is not in fact necessarily easy to find and takes either search-engine fu or persistence or both. Yet there is still that nasty little mental voice telling me that I am being loud and shouty and braggy and condescending and annoying by talking/writing at length/sharing information about things.... See my icon.

Trying to find voter information for Mississippi is like pulling hen's teeth. Friend of mine who used to be a State Representative and is now a City Mayor keeps an eye on the pages and when it changes he calls Delbert's office manager to make sure he can announce it on Twitter for the city.

He's a good egg.

Your friend sounds awesome!

And that makes me doubly pleased that I was able to find what appear to be not one but two relevant&official links for MS voter information--- if you have a chance to look at the linkspam, let me know if the ones for MS seem legit (since it sounds like you are better informed about that state than I).

He *is* awesome quite often. (Early mornings, eh, but we'll let that one pass. Not everyone can be a cheerful person at six am. I'm not for sure.)

I'll check and make sure!

:D Yeah, I'm a "Hell is other people at breakfast" sort myself, for that matter.

Thanks so much for checking--- writing up that linkspam was an eye-opener for me in how vastly different the various states are in their internal operations.

...for some reason this just makes me smile. Then again, I'm the sort of person who spontaneously makes statewide elections linkspam. ;)

Watergate really is amazing. Especially the current parallels.

I hope you can succeed in stomping that little voice!

Thank you! I try to. And, frankly, on DW especially I should know that the community norm does skew toward something like "share your knowledge and those that already have it can scroll past and will probably not be ~annoyed~ that you shared".
