Not sure if this is too tangential, but - 20 million people facing famine and it's not making the news cycles I see, mostly. And writing our folks in Congress might help, since aid and the budget are part of the concern.

Here you can download the first issue of And My Axe, an anti-fascist zine that we intend to release every two weeks. I hope you'll boost the signal.

I see you're recording IP addresses, so a modly type should be able to identify me from my previous comments on this comm—in fact I suggest a modly type do that, because I expect you would trust a download link from a handle you recognize a lot more than from this ten-minute-old handle—but for the love of fuck don't identify me where people can see. We are planning for the possibility that the creators of this zine will be explicitly targeted because of this zine, so we are being very careful anonymice.

I was looking for some kind of get-out-the-vote tag, but we don't seem to have one. Could one be made? I'd be happy to tag my latest post with it.

You've got it. (PM'ing me is generally faster than posting here, by the way.)

Look into CHIP?

[personal profile] ekaterinn 2017-10-02 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Would it be possible to have a post about CHIP, the Children's Health Insurance Program that expired Saturday 9/30? Between Puerto Rico and NFL, this has not gotten much media attention. But 9 million children are insured by it and Utah has already had to turn people away.

I took a brief look but didn't see this: would there be any merit in a sticky post where we can list organizations that are working on specific issues--- sort of a "one stop shop" where people can look for an organization that supports a particular cause they care about? (I know the tags list somewhat functions that way, but having an omnibus post might also help.) (I'll be happy to contribute to the list, if there's an interest!)

(This comment brought to you by the Q&A section of tonight's ACLU GOTV strategy conference call and specifically all the people who really, really, needed to find a different organization with which to volunteer, rather than demanding that the ACLU basically change its mission to suit them. Seriously, there were at least three people who just really needed to spend their time on some other org--- starting, perhaps, by Googling up the causes they care about for themselves.)

I'm not in the US, but this recently landed in my inbox for women who live there: http://www.powertothepolls.com/call-your-sister.html

Hi! I know this isn't usually the remit of this comm, but I imagine it's a pretty fannish audience, and there's quite a movement going on right now about racism in fannish spaces. I am wondering if a post here about ways to influence the OTW elections in the direction of antiracism would fall under the [community profile] thisfinecrew umbrella.

A list of states that have less-than-stellar abortion laws, and a good script of what to put on a postcard. I do not know if such a list currently exists.
