Ohio #ProtectMueller Update

First the bad news. If anyone hasn't read the Seth Abramson Twitter thread on why Whitaker as Acting AG is even worse than we thought on first glance, go do that, please.

Now the good news. A politically active friend who couldn't make the protest yesterday Resistbotted our Republican Senator, Rob Portman, and 1: already received a reply today! and 2: reported that it said that Portman is in favor of protecting the Mueller investigation!

And now the "let's get back to work" news: Portman's aides may be writing this back to people on letterhead, but it's not in his press releases or on either his Senatorial or campaign Twitter, which means he's perfectly happy to say something privately but not publicly. So for my fellow Ohio people (all four of us): we gotta keep calling. And we need to tell Portman to make some specific action steps.

So people who are better at this than me: what specifically should we be asking our senators (people like Rob Portman or Poor Susan Collins who is concerned but can't do anything but wring her hands) to do?

I'll update this post with your ideas.

Specific Actions Steps Senators Can Take
*Make a public statement denouncing the Whitaker appointment
*Demand an injunction against Whitaker being made Attorney General
*???

Words mean less than nothing with that bunch. "Watch what they do, not what they say," to paraphrase my favorite pundit. Constituents could ask the retiring senators, like Jeff Flake and Bob Corker, who alleged they wanted to protect the Mueller investigation, to change their party affiliation from Republican to Independent and caucus with the Democrats. That would make Chuck Schumer the majority leader and he could get bring legislation to the floor to protect Mueller. It's a Hail Mary, plus it won't take effect until the Democrats take over the House in 2019 and can pass it, too. And I suppose the president can always veto it. Okay, I got nothing.

Thank you for this!

I think I got a reponse to my resistbot message today in five minutes (usually it seems like they're like weeks or months later).

If animated GIFs were still a Thing, we would have one for this comm with Jodie Whittaker: "Doctor", Matthew Whitaker, "Master," Jodie "13", Whitaker, "Bad Luck," etc.
