Check In 2 April

I'm sure I wasn't the only one who let out a whoop on seeing the news that Trump has finally been criminally indicted. (While also being a little worried about how his supporters will react.) Looking forward to finding out what the actual charges are next week.

We've had one post in the comm since the last check in that's still active.

Are You In Florida? Oppose Senate Bill 254.

However, I did want to check if anyone has updates on the situation in Crestline, CA and the kind of help (whether practical or poking government officials/politicians) they need now. Let us know in the comments.

Thank you to everyone who's posted this month. As always, everyone is free to make posts about any issues and actions they think the comm should know about. You can also drop some information into a comment to our sticky post if you'd like the mods to do it.

If you're looking for information on anything else, you can use our tags to check for any ongoing actions or resources relevant to the issues you care about. (And a quick shout out to [personal profile] redbird for all the tagging work that keeps the comm running smoothly.)

Finally, here's our poll (behind the cut) for you to tell us what you've been doing in the last few weeks. And do let us know in comments what you plan to do next.

When I heard the headline about Trump, I asked my husband "Are we safe now?" But ...no, we're not. He might even manage to get himself elected again. Neither of us can afford passports.

From what [personal profile] rachelmanija has been posting, she and some other people have made it out of Crestline, but the local government and FEMA are mostly invisible at best, though they did send another snowplow, which destroyed her car that was parked up there:

Here's her post from a couple of days ago: https://rachelmanija.dreamwidth.org/2633871.html

My "something else" this month was calls to the governor of California, about Crestline, and two British Columbia officials, demanding that the RCMP release Wet’suwet’en land defenders who had been arrested.

The Canadian calls were through Action Network, and brought to my attention by [profile] tigerbright; I got an email a day or two later saying the calls had worked. Gov. Newsom did issue a disaster declaration covering Crestline, but it's not at all clear whether that has made any difference.
