Check In 6 February

This month's round-up and check-in post kicks off with a reminder that [community profile] fandomtrumpshate's 2022 round is now open for signups.

Here are the posts since the last check in:

Scam - Covid Testing Sites Run By The Center For Covid Control
You Can Now Order Free At-Home Covid-19 Tests
Initiative For AFC (NYState)
Blocking The EARN IT Act
(Donate) National Butterfly Center Closing Indefinitely After Attacks From Right-Wing

And the usual reminder to not be shy of making your own posts about any issues and actions you think the comm should know about, or dropping some information into a comment to our sticky post if you'd like the mods to do it.

Please also let us know of anything you think should be added to our roundup of election resources (or anything that needs to be removed).

You can always use our tags to check for any ongoing actions or resources relevant to the issues you care about. (And a quick shout out to [personal profile] redbird for all the tagging work that keeps the comm running smoothly.)

Finally, here's our poll (behind the cut) for you to tell us what you've been doing in the last few weeks. And do let us know in comments what you plan to do next.

I had another follow-up appointment a few days ago with my nephrologist and her nurse practitioner. At that appointment I asked about having another booster shot, and was given the green light. So at some point in the very near future I'm getting that other dose. It still shocks me to the core how many people are simply unwilling to protect themselves/others against this deadly virus. But otoh, given what I now know about the far-right movement it doesn't surprise me that these alien beings have not an ounce of common sense and decency and are therefore refusing to do the proper thing.

I checked "worked for a campaign" for sending postcards to voters, in this case for a city council race in Jacksonville, FL.

I wasn't even thinking of that, in January, but they emailed looking for people to write postcards for a special election, so I grabbed my stack of cards from 2020 and sent a few. I'm mentioning this in case anyone else is looking for something remote/socially distanced that doesn't require talking on the phone.

"n even more terrifying internet news, long story short, there’s a big committee happening in the US Copyright Office to try and talk about whether they should expand Content ID to the entire internet, and they’re asking for public input.

So, tell them how much automated Content-ID-type systems suck and how Copyright enforcement needs to be relaxed not tightened."
