Vote on the Better Care Reconciliation Act (the name of the Senate bill) has been postponed until after the July 4 recess. And when they get back, they'll have a whole megillah about passing the budget, which has a hard deadline, so they may "forget" to take up the BCRA.

This is c&pd from a Center for Medicare Advocacy Alert:

Health Care Repeal Vote Postponed - But Keep the Pressure On

Senate leadership today announced that a vote on the Senate health care repeal bill would be postponed until after the July 4 recess. While this shows that the efforts of all those who have called and written to tell the truth about this awful legislation are working, it is not the end. We saw this happen in the House, and can’t let it happen again.

Use the July 4 recess to attend town halls, parades and rallies, and don’t stop calling your Senators to tell them not to cut or cap Medicaid.

I am still sad that my first instinct when I saw the name of that bill was *not* accurate. The gene for increased risk of breast cancer is BRCA, not BCRA. So many openings for smart remarks if the acronym had matched in reality, not just my head....

That was your first thought, too? Okay, it wasn't just me who initially went there.

...I am not alone! Yay!

Also, darnit. The snark would have been even more glorious if the acronym HAD mapped.

Everything about this thread makes me happy. It's four beautiful comments' worth of science nerd fandom political snark; there is nothing about it not to love.

OMG, when I got the NYT and WaPo alerts saying the thing had been pushed back, I swear I was light-headed with relief. Just. So. Happy.

And now instead of calling every day about health care, I can mix it up with some calls about voter registration as well--- in addition to the bills from this post, there's also H.R. 2978, "To amend the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to revise the criteria for determining which States and political subdivisions are subject to section 4 of the Act, and for other purposes," and H.R. 12, "To modernize voter registration, promote access to voting for individuals with disabilities, protect the ability of individuals to exercise the right to vote in elections for Federal office, and for other purposes." (The latter was introduced by no less a personage than Rep. John Lewis, squee!) (Right now, they're all buried in committee, but if nothing else we've established that calling our congresscritters actually does have some effect!) (Aaaaaaand if we shore up our voting rights, well then.)

Thanks! Out of all of this nightmare dumpsterfire, my takeaway is that the bottom line is keeping "our votes and our voices"--- freedom of expression (and concomitantly privacy, which is its flip side) and then the ability to vote for officials who act on what we tell them we'd like to see from our government.

And, wow, do I ever agree with the idea that this guy (I like to call him "Denny Crane's id," though that's only funny if you've watched Boston Legal) assumes that everyone does the same things he does. In fact, I've actually been thinking it for a while about the Republican approach to demonizing Democrats, and the health care bill is a HUGE example of that--- they cried "death panels" at the ACA and then turned right round and came up with a process that would remove coverage from people that an insurance company decides are "too" sick or old. But I guess it's okay, because the insurance companies are doing it in the name of the Wholly Profit. And we all know that's what the GOP truly holds sacred.

...I LOVE the truth-in-government acronym in your subject line!

Heh, thanks--- oh, wow, maybe we could make a game of "Crane-spotting": catching all the times where Trump says something that's close to something Denny Crane said. Or a "Trump or Crane?" game where you have to guess if it was Denny or Donald who said something.

...the Kushner comment is GOLD. I literally LOL'd. (Hmmm... now, who are the other candidates? Bannon? His BFF Putin?) (Another nickname for him I've heard is "Putin's putain".)

Oh, yeah, phony Time covers = Denny Crane playbook. (Also the tweet about Mika Brzezinski? Straight up Denny Crane.)

Ha, I have trouble imagining anyone in that crew taking care of each other--- more like filing for conservatorship or other form of seizing the reins the minute he slipped enough for them to pull it off. (Though arguably this campaign should've done the trick--- maybe they all have drunk enough of his Kool-aid that he's safe from a full King Lear.)
