(I'm also in the UK and aware of how much impact local councillors have on our daily quality of life and on either softening or worsening whatever tomfoolery the national government comes up with. We've got county council elections here and I'm really hoping -- if not entirely expecting -- to see a change in control because the current council are such money-wasting idiots and we don't need another four years of them.)
