I went a bit more passive-aggressive and tried arguing that even if they feel honour-bound to publish all points on the political spectrum, maybe they shouldn't have given a large advance to someone whose previous track-record is a self-published volume of poetry that's riddled with plagiarized lines, and his editor had better be well-paid for their labours.
