I Voted!

Use this post to tell us you voted -- whether today, in early voting or by mail -- and what it was like.

Was it busy when you voted? Did you have any nice encounters and conversations when you went to vote? See any good or unexpected signs? Or any cute dogs? (Cute dogs at polling stations are a bit of a tradition in the UK -- I don't know if it's the same in the US!)

Did you persuade any friends, family or co-workers to go and vote?

Oh, and have a sticker.

I voted mid-afternoon with an unusually long line in my liberal enclave of a town.

I did a phone-banking shift, which got me a couple of voting plans made, several people who said they had already voted, and one who hadn't realized it was Election Day. For that alone, it was worth the time. I also gave advice to someone who had gone to vote early in the day and left before the line was too long, and told two people about absentee ballots for future years when they told me they were too ill (one) and disabled (one) to go vote.

You can find a subthread for every candidate here. (Wow, English starts to look really weird after doing a lot of copy&paste/concatenate comments right in a row. /flops.)

Go you! Especially since you have some particularly important races in your state.

I voted 2 weeks ago in person, because I'm out of district today. (Taking care of my aged father.) I was pleased to see 3 or 4 other people voting in the room -- and my ballot receipt said it was #127 (IIRC) on just the 2nd day of early voting. I was so pleased.

Even more pleased to see that we kept our D senator (Martin Heinrich), switched from R to D for Governor (Michelle Lujan Grisham [I'm SO relieved]), held D for 1st & 3rd Congressional seats (Debra Haaland and Ben Ray Lujan). 2nd Congressional seat hasn't been called, and D (Xochitl Torres Small) is trailing. I have my fingers crossed, but that's my corner of the state, and it's pretty red (oilfield workers and cattlemen / alfalfa farmers). But I guess 4 out of 5 isn't bad.

Checking more results -- whee! Dems held or took Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Auditor, State Land Commissioner, and Treasurer. (Particularly happy with Sec of St, because last one tried to implement voter ID laws). Also D for state Supreme Court, Appeals Courts 1, 2, 3, and 4. Farther downballot seems even split between R and D winners <sigh>, but could be so much worse.

Unfortunately, mostly no.

But we got medical pot legalized, and a raise in the minimum wage, and actually got some goddamn ethics legislation passed...

Which doesn't make up for that we lost Claire in the Senate. I'm heartbroken. And I'm still stuck with that Republican bitch I refuse to name as Rep.

Yes! And the best news is... 8000 votes from one late reporting county were counted, and Xochitl won!!! Dems have a complete sweep -- 3 congress (and all POC), 2 senators, and ALL the top officials at state level. I'm so pumped!
