From United We Dream, info@unitedwedream.org:
The Dream Act of 2017 has been introduced in the Senate to protect DACA recipients. It has four sponsors: Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY). United We Dream asks for peole to telephone their Attorney General. The number they give is (832) 610-3896.

Their suggested message is "I am calling to ask the Attorney General to come out publicly to defend the DACA program. This program has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of immigrant youth across the country and it must be protected. I expect my attorney general to support the immigrant community and protect DACA."

ACLU People Power has organized deportation solidarity event outside regional ICE offices tomorrow, Sunday, April 23rd at 3 p.m.

I know there's one in Boston, and a quick check found others in New York and Seattle. (The website isn't set up to search for events by date or time; I found those two by searching based on my old NYC and Bellevue, WA, zip codes.)

The Boston event looks small so far: 121 of us have signed up to attend, so I figure I'll be more noticeable there than I would be if I'd made it to the March for Science today.

Note: this was originally announced for April 22nd, and then rescheduled a couple of days ago.

Daniel Ramirez Medina released from detention

Daniel Ramirez Medina, the DACA recipient detained during a raid to arrest his father and accused of gang affiliation, has been released from the Federal Detention Center in Tacoma after 46 days in detention.

This is only partial good news, as Ramirez was released on a bond of $15,000 after the case was heard in Immigration Court and faces another immigration hearing next month as ICE has revoked his DACA status, using an apparently doctored statement as the basis for the decision. However, it sounds like Ramirez's legal team will continue to pursue the constitutional issues in Federal Court.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/immigrant-rights-protests-planned-for-50-u-s-cities-1484395203

Jordan reports rallies in support of immigrnats on "Saturday"--I think she means today, not the 21st--a "day of action" stretching from New York and Miami to Phoenix and Los Angeles. "Activists will call on city mayors and local officials" to protect immigrants by adopting sanctuary policies (protecting immigrants from federal enforcement). "During his campaign, Mr. Trump voted to eliminate any programs created through executive action, and his 10-point immigration plan, posted online, states the same." The article says that Trump has "tempered his tone" and might consider other options for Dreamers (beneficiaries of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, who now have the option to apply for relief from deportation and two-year renewable work permits).

My take on the matter is that, since employing undocumented workers is popular with businesses (who can pay undocumented workers less and allot them even fewer rights than documented workers) the businesses are not going to give up easily.
