It's been a pretty quiet week in the comm (wish we could say the same for the blabbermouth Minority President…), but I'm sure you've all been busy with your acts of resistance!

One bit of news is that our tag guru [personal profile] redbird is going to have limited internet time for the next week or so. That means it may take a bit longer than the usual super-speedy service for your posts to be tagged and new tags added. (Remember: you can always add existing tags to your posts yourselves.)

Housekeeping (the usual stuff)
Reminder that we have a suggestion post if there’s a topic that you’d like to see discussed but would like to ask the mods to look into. This can be anything from general information, or a how-to-do-a-thing, or something you may want to discuss as a community. Folks are welcome to post directly to the comm as always, but if you’re not comfortable/don’t have spoons, we can help too.

As we don't always get the time to pull things out of the suggestions post into their own separate posts, it may be worth checking every week (or tracking the post) to see if there's any new information you're interested in.

Also if you need help with tags, PM [personal profile] redbird, who is our tag guru. Both [personal profile] tassosss and I are very grateful for the help.

From [tumblr.com profile] delurkingdetective's post here:

If you’re worried about nuclear war, one actual thing you can do to prevent it is to call your representatives and ask them to cosponsor the Restricting First Use of Nuclear Weapons Act. It would require Trump (and any future president) to get congressional approval to use nuclear weapons as a first strike (as opposed to retaliation after someone uses them first). It was proposed back in January and seems really, really relevant these days.

You can check if your reps are cosponsors here:

https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/669/cosponsors
https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/senate-bill/200/cosponsors

If they’re not a cosponsor, call and ask them to become one.

If they’re already a cosponsor, call them and thank them, and ask them to release a press release reaffirming their support. The more news there is about this, the more likely the GOP leadership will feel pressured to actually deal with this.

And (idea inspired by [personal profile] recessional): if they're already cosponsoring/speaking out, you can send them a thank you card. Representatives get very little positive reinforcement, so any bit they get makes an impact. Reinforce the behaviour you want to encourage!
